Post FestumThe 2007 IAUPE Conference, preceded by the Medieval Symposium (in Ystad, 3-4 August), took place between 5 and 11 August in Lund. Thanks to munificent sponsors -- Lund University, the Royal Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities, the Crafoord Foundation, the Royal Society of Letters in Lund, and the Municipalities of Lund and Ystad -- and to benign weather gods, participants were able to enjoy Lund (and Ystad) at their best. IAUPE officials, above all the Secretary-General Ian Kirby and Past President Paul Stanwood, were enormously helpful and supportive in matters great and small. Local support staff, from section assistants to IT experts and janitors, gave sterling service, enabling participants to experience the Centre for Languages and Literature (including its handsome Library), the Palaestra lecture hall, and the Lund University Auditorium ('Aula') as the excellent conference venues they are. The academic programme was the work of the 37 Conference Chairs, who put together not only the fullest IAUPE programme on record, but also sections whose overall quality was remarkably high even for this prestigious association. Plans are being made for a printed volume containing a selection of conference papers, including the two splendid keynote lectures by Elizabeth Traugott and Helen Vendler. The projected book, with the working title English Now, will appear in the Lund Studies in English series and be sent free of charge to all IAUPE members. Potential contributors will be contacted in the course of the autumn months. Finally, I wish to express my personal gratitude to all IAUPE delegates who came to Lund and filled the place with warmth and friendliness. We miss you!
